Ryan L. Williams - Consultant

While with NABJ, Ryan Williams was a central figure in convention and program development, marketing communications and advocacy at NABJ. From 2005, Ryan grew and developed non-dues revenue streams to the organization through original programming for its convention and media institutes in politics, health and education as well as growing its national media awards program and expanded special events, including their annual Hall of Fame Awards in Washington, DC.

In re-developing the NABJ Media Institute, Ryan introduced the organization’s first web seminars series, online resources and themed-based conferences on subjects of great importance to the community, industry and its membership. He maintained partnerships with institutions including Harvard University The New York Times, Morehouse School of Medicine, the United Nations, State Department and the White House. He also incorporated social media aspects into program development and marketing communications, creating the organization’s first Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn sites.

Ryan brings a fresh perspective to marketing communications, fundraising and program development. He has developed partnership and support to ensure organizations moves forward strategically in areas of program development, outreach and client support. His work with groups including Google, NBC News, The New York Times and the Ford Foundation advanced the cause of racial parity in digital media.

His work in the area of marketing communication and media relations has heralded quotes in the New York Times, Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. In taking on issues of media, consolidation and freedom of speech in line with the strategic goal of the organization, Ryan skillfully guided organizations from behind the scenes to the top offices of the FCC, FTC and the United States Congress. He also managed the influx of media requests surrounding events including Hurricane Katrina, the 2008 Election and the organization’s boycott of radio and cable television host Don Imus.

Ryan understands the meaning of efficient and effective service in capturing, establishing and maintaining relationships. His Rolodex extends to contacts in the arts and sciences, health and technology, civil rights, education, business, finance and public policy. Ryan has been a guest lecturer at Georgetown University and the University of Maryland-College Park on areas of leadership, mentorship, service learning and ethics.

His previous roles include positions with the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, National 4-H Council, the Innovation Center for Community and Youth Development and AmeriCorps.

Ryan is a proud alumnus of The Pennsylvania State University, and volunteers in the Metro Washington DC- area for causes benefiting youth and under-served communities. He currently serves on boards and advisory councils for local arts and humanities programs. Ryan resides in Arlington, Virginia.
